Bio:
Heather Reynolds began a 6-year climbing road trip in 1994, which ended in 2000. During the years of climbing full-time, Heather completed her Master's in Kinesiology, developed a training and movement approach to climbing and wrote a book on training called, "Climbing Your Best". More recently, Heather has been involved in program development, wall design and program implementation and instructor training. A recent article in Athletic Business, entitled "Tall Orders" features many of the ideas that Heather has developed about operating a climbing facility that motivates climbers and non climbers and improves profitability. Heather received her Master of Kinesiology degree in 1996, her Education degree in 1990. She is a personal trainer and a Climbing Program Coordinator for Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS Canada. Through her current role, she has developed a very successful program menu for climbing, this may be viewed at http://www.athletics.dal.ca/default.cfm?id=485.
Workshop Description:
Through group discussion and interaction, we will examine the target market and mission statement of facilities. These mission statements will then become a foundation for a framework from which you can foster an atmosphere that works for maintaining and drawing in new clientele. It is the goal of this workshop to identify a mission statement and potential program options that reinforce that statement. These programs can then be developed into action plans that incorporate and encourage the development of the staff, allowing for a greater sense of ownership and productivity.
Workshop Goals:
To demonstrate how to use programming opportunities to train and involve customers in your community and the staff beyond the front desk. Increased revenue of your facility through programming. Increased membership through a sense of community and belonging and improved knowledge and productivity of staff.
Workshop Outline:
This workshop looks at how to develop the atmosphere in your facility that provides your clientele with more than a place to climb, but a community in which to develop their skills. Engaging your customer and staff in a process of interaction through programming and events allows for the development of a sense of community and ownership. This workshop allows for discussion and development strategies in areas of programming and events to encourage the right atmosphere for your facility.
