ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
The Climbing Wall Association (CWA) is a non-profit, trade association serving the growing indoor recreational climbing industry. The CWA’s member network includes commercial climbing gyms, climbing equipment manufacturers, climbing wall design/build firms, climbing sports media, and other industry players.

Our mission is to support the growth, health, independence and professionalism of the climbing wall industry. We do this by developing and maintaining industry standards and practices, representing member interests in regulatory and legislative processes, sponsoring professional development programs and educational initiatives, hosting an annual conference and promoting the sport of climbing to increase market size and improve market climate.

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
The successful candidate will be an experienced bookkeeper. We’re a small team, so we’re looking for an all-rounder and team player who can help support us in our work as we help build a new industry. We are looking for someone with a “get it done” attitude who is friendly, detail-oriented and motivated to succeed. Of course, you will have strong analytical skills and be completely comfortable with accounting software and other common business systems. You’ll fit in well if you are passionate about adventure sports or the outdoors.

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Bookkeeper that will be primarily responsible for managing AR. The position will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date customer records in accounting, membership and events management software. The bookkeeper will support administration and our membership and events programs and work closely with those staff members. Primary responsibilities include accounts receivable, bank deposits, reporting and other finance-related duties as assigned. This position will be half time.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

 

ADMINISTRATION

  •  Coordinate bookkeeping activities with all departments
  • Document bookkeeping procedures and keep documents up-to-date.
  • Assist staff with accounting systems and reporting
  • Maintain well-organized and accurate records.
  • Assist with various monthly and quarterly tasks and account analysis.

ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE

  • Bookkeeping and data entry, including a strong emphasis on membership Accounts Receivable.
  • Responsible for generating, distributing and recording payments against invoices.
  • Responsible for recording sales receipts for on-line sales.
  • Responsible for accurate GL coding on all invoices and sales receipts.
  • Responsible for all collection calls on outstanding balances
  • Responsible for preparing outstanding AR reports monthly and reviewing with staff.
  • Maintain files, including accounts receivable and deposit documentation.
  • Responsible for receiving and recording customer electronic payments and checks and applying those to outstanding balances.
  • Responsible for batching payments by payment type and making bank deposits.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial reporting as directed by management and/or accountant.
  • Administrative/organizational support: filing, answering emails, attending meetings, teleconference calls, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Accounting, Business Administration, Bookkeeping or related field is required.

Experience:

  • Track record of discretion and reliability.
  • Minimum of two to three years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Prior association or non-profit work experience desired, but not required.
  • Recreational climbing experience a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical reasoning skills.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks accounting software.
  • General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to perform detail-oriented work accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Excellent technology skills: database or association management software experience a plus.
  • Ability to set goals, prioritize tasks and measure results.
  • Strong initiative with the ability to work independently while maintaining cooperative and productive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to develop a good rapport with members and customers.

Typical Physical Demands: Position requires minimal physical effort, but may require prolonged sitting at a computer, and some occasional light lifting (up to 30 lbs.). Position requires hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and visual acuity to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Position requires normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare and communicate appropriate correspondence, reports or presentations. Position may require working irregular hours. Position will require attending and or participating in events out of the area that require extended travel from time to time.

 

Typical Mental Demands: Excellent analytical skills, maturity, and sound judgment are important attributes in this position. Candidate must be able to handle sensitive information appropriately. Must be able to handle novel, diverse and ambiguous work problems daily. Must be able to analyze information, make appropriate recommendations, formulate work plans, achieve goals by deadlines and meet budget expectations.

 

Equipment/Software Used: Computer, telephone, copier, printer, postage machine and other standard office equipment. Software includes Relational Database Management Software, Windows OS, Mac OS, MS Office, accounting software, web browser, web based applications, etc.

 

Working Environment: Work environment is a casual office environment. Travel out of the area will be required from time to time.
